Hi,
many thanks for the efforts of those who run this site , and those who have posted it is all very useful. It is very useful, please keep posting.
We are scout group jaguarseascouts.org.uk/ based near the Thames, the upper ish part, two locks past the RNLI station, in Molesey. 1st Molesey jaguar Sea Scout Group.
The leaders and helpers all provide some fantastic options for the scouts, cubs and beavers. They are accredited by the Royal Navy, which is a great standard to maintain. Amongst other things they do is Kayaking, (one of the leaders has a day job doing kayak/canoe tours up past the House of Parliment), and they also have a couple of outboards so the scounts can start getting the motor licenses. They provide marshalling at the Great River Race just helping out and providing support as needed.
Which leads us onto the Skiff.... A couple of years ago (2015 race) some of us borrowed the Thames Gig, and had a go in the Great River Race. None of us really knew what we doing, but we had a great time, the scout leaders got the boat down there and took it back, and we raised some wonga for the group. It was a great day out. We did the same in the 2016 race, and again had a fantasstic time, but we couldnt help but notice the faster boats "whizzing" by (yes we chose to ignore our lack of rowing ability, this will come, hopefully).
So after looking around we found your lovely Skiff and decided to start our Community Boat Build. We are building in the scout boat shed and the skiff will be owned by the scouts when finsidhed. We'd like as many that are interested in to come down and get stuck. Eventually we race the boat in the GRR, and hopefully we'll be able to keep up with you guys whizzing by....
We try and keep a record of what we are doing here jaguarseascouts.org.uk/boatbuild/
Its too cold to expoy now, we think/guess so will skarf the hog/keel and the planks in the meantime.
Regards
Bruce
