Dear All
Time to kick this ball into play. Skiffs travelling to and from the Outer Hebrides incur mighty ferry charges. What will Calmac do to support Scottish Coastal Rowing in the long and short term?
For those that do not know me I am involved with An Eathar and Row Porty.
An Eathar, Shawbost based ( boat less club) is expecting to tempt skiffs across the Minch 8th to 11th May so this issue affects us now.
Having Googled it appears Calmac have a web based sponsorship form with briefing included.

This process seems geared to a one time discount at once per year whereas I imagine what we need is a Scottish Coastal Rowing deal. Perhaps a two year deal where skiffs and towing car go free but the other followers pay. We could argue then that they would recoup their losses from the added traffic that the touring skiffs generated. Without this deal it would be perhaps prohibitively expenses and neither skiffs nor followers would travel. We would point out that, for each skiff, often 20 people travel to take turns rowing.
We would be best to come to a consensus and make a unified approach. So please speak out now. An Eathar has a pressing need so I am willing to lead the charge, altho I am currently in the Antipodes I am willing to give it a shot from here. I suggest a phone call to their marketing dept to ask what is the best approach for us to advance our request and they may well just point us to the online process.
As ever time is of the essence.
Currently affected:
An Eathar, Shawbost, Lewis
Madadh Ruadh, Stornoway, Lewis
Ullapool
Rowporty
Islay Rowing Club
Nearby and potentially affected in the near future
Coigach
Lochinver
Gairloch
North Tolsta
Loch Ewe
Argyll
Discuss. Best wishes Murdo
